Its the lovely May’s (aka fairyring’s) birthday! Darling, you deserve a much more nekkid better drawing of Stahl for this special day, but this is what I was able to whip up while buried alive under a mountain of unfinished work-work. Forgive me. I wish you the best nonetheless!

“Don’t Trip!” - Sumia
There are things about this one that I love, and things that I hate. But…that’s why I’m practicing? I’ve noticed that when drawing fanart, I have a tendency to conform to the style of the thing I’m fanarting from. That bothers me, because I really want to develop a look that is recognizable as my own. I feel like I was a little more successful with translating Sumia with my own style today than the previous cards though. Part of me wants to redo them all (that’s also another bad habit). *sigh*
Edit: scan killed the darks, so I punched it up a bit.

“I’ll kill you twice!” -SullyLate night sketchcard using the new markers I got in the mail. They’re the Tombow Dual Brush Pens. Since they’re water-based instead of alcohol based, I struggled with how it handled a bit, and I think it shows here particularly since my scanner is rather unforgiving, ugh. Unlike alcohol markers, layering too much with these markers will pick up the paper (in this case vellum bristol), and I also had to ink after I laid down the colors. I do like the markers’ smoothness and transparency though, because they basically function like watercolors. I’ll try them out on watercolor cards next time.

Nadjina, here’s yo man, Gaius! Stealin’ pinatas like a boss. I’ve always wanted to marry Gaius at least once…but I could never do it without screwing up some other lady’s marriage prospects so I never did *abloobloobloo*.

this is great. what about sully? :)

Don’t worry, she’s on the docket! I’m trying to do one a day as a kind of exercise in coloring traditionally, since I do a lot of things digitally now. But unfortunately I’m still waiting on some markers to arrive in the mail, so I’m lacking on some tones I need for certain characters at the moment. Namely the more red-y and dark blue/purple-y ones. Sully’s one of my favorite ladies so there’s no way I’d leave her in the dust!

Stahl sketchcard! The hubby of my good friend fairyring (check out her Fire Emblem cosplay!). For some reason I struggled with this one, kept messing up his face during inking, and went through two cards before I finally got it better. Third time’s the charm I guess.

Got some new markers! I’m going to try to do a sketch card a day as a kind of exercise to discipline myself. First set’s going to be Fire Emblem Awakening characters! Starting with ma husband :-P, Frederick. A super boring portrait shot but…well, the intricacy of the armor makes up for it…maybe.

My Fire Emblem husband and my avatar (in plain clothes because as much as I love Frederick, I don’t care to draw his armor for leisure) :-D Hee hee hee.

Trying out a different coloring technique, with “meh” success. This is by no means finished but I’m kind of just done with it.

Frederick is probably reading “101 Campfire Techniques for the Tireless Lieutenant’s Soul.”

Oops I colored my Fire Emblem Avatar in…and made her my avatar! Fufufu.

Edit: in my second playthrough, she still looks the same but I changed her name from Sophia to Wren. Just in case anyone who streetpassed me was wondering!

It feels like forever since I’ve posted anything on Tumblr. Dreadfully sorry, but my work life has recently picked up some new prospects, and my personal life has been consumed by Fire Emblem: Awakening. Highly recommend it if you have a 3ds (but beware of addiction!). I think my little fandom sideblog will soon be flooded with images from this game for the next few days, weeks, maybe months now.

Here’s a doodle of my custom unit. Her name is Sophia :-).

Doodled this in Manga Studio 5 using Ray Frenden’s awesome brush pack which you can get here. There are also Photoshop brushes too!
