One more kid. Gilbert’s the kind of guy that will scowl at your ideas and look at you like you’re stupidly crazy, but then sigh and tag along just to make sure you don’t REALLY kill yourself by accident. The “you” in this case is usually Sophie. He’s also got near perfect reading memory, but tries to keep that a secret for some reason.
Here’s another character whom we’ll be seeing a bit of in the first chapter. Sophie is one of Pomme’s best friends and shares her not-so-secret desire for adventure beyond the county borders (but it is forbidden). Sophie is however, more impetuous and ADD about things than Pomme, which in turn causes their other mutual friend, Gilbert, a lot of grief.
In the society of Meristem County, when kids turn twelve, they go through a kind of trial to determine what role they are to be apprenticed under. Pomme is the last of her friends to go through the trial. Sophie has already been sorted into a “humanities” apprenticeship, but she misunderstands the meaning of that and thinks she’ll be trained to guard humanity from lurking evils and whatnot.
Non spoilery character sheet for Pomme Granada, main character of my upcoming webcomic Meristem County.
Aaand kinda sorta big news in that vein! I am launching Meristem County next Thursday, February 2nd! So keep your eyes peeled for an update on this tumblr with the url :-).
I teach digital arts to little kids by day, and work on my own art by night, dreaming of becoming a super art hero. I write and draw a webcomic called "Meristem County."

Things that Inspire Me
"Fatti Maschi, Parole Femmine" means "Manly Deeds, Womanly Words." It is the official motto of Maryland, my home-state.
